[David Bergdahl]

The discussion of "Asian" makes me think that the terms Far East / Near
East used to be used, now replaced by China, Japan, India & SE Asia and
Middle East.  I wonder why Middle East has been retained when Far / Near
have been abandoned (because of their Eurocentric orientation?) and if
Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt and the Gulf States are "Middle" what are
they in the middle of?
