The citations of the use of "gom" by Dennis, except for the mental picture
summoned up, parallel the contexts in which I, and I expect many others
outside "Kentuckiana", would use "GUM":
a gummy mess
all gummed up
I've used those all my life, but don't have any sense of when or where I
learned them. It could have been growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, or
later, but my feeling is that the usage is quite wide-spread, though I
haven't checked any dictionary.
