Maybe a reformulation as Ebonyx would clear things up--both "explain" the -s and give the connection with the color. (I agree with the notion of association with Phonics, though.) And maybe an imaginative cartoonist would like to come up with a picture of an Ebonyx, off to cavort with other mythical beasts such as Yales. Peter R.
