Exactly right.  Mind you, I only put forward the explanation for this
derivation of the term "the whole nine yards" as a possibility.  In fact,
however, the plaid was a strip of cloth about nine yards long, cut and sewed
together to make a wider piece than could be produced on a typical
highlander's home loom.
