   Over 600 cookbooks are listed!
   The book begins with this whopper on pg. 5:

   The earliest volume located is dated 1899, and while it is not a cookbook, it does give recipes for Chinese vegetables, is authored by Blasdale, and is printed by the United States Government.  The next volume is by Nolton (1911)...

   I just got out of the East Asian library here at Columbia University.  It has a Chinese cookbook from 1890!
   Also, while this book includes books on Chinese restaurants, the NYU thesis is not listed.  Only one French language book is given (from the 1920s).  Despite these quibbles, this book was useful.
   Merriam-Webster has "wonton" from 1934.  This is from page 9:
