   OED has 1948.  Merriam-Webster doesn't indicate what kind of "layup" is has for its earliest date.
   From the NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE, 31 January 1937, section II sports, pg. 4, col. 1:

   ...when St John's was pressing from behind a one-point deficit Hilly put the lid on the triumph with two fast one-handed lay-up shots.
