I am a baseball fan of some standing (since childhood, going back 40+ years;
still a loyal Tigers fan ("Remember Sparky and the boys, 1984!").  I can
report anecdotally that "in his wheelhouse" is widely used by baseball
broadcasters, including on national TV.

I don't have Dickson's baseball dict handy, but he may cover it, perhaps
with some history.
