Greetings again from Vilnius, Lithuania. Almost half of the population here was once Jewish. The small reminder of what happened is pathetic.

(This is a famous town about 25 km. away. The population is Jewish by way of Turkey--ed.)
Pg. 12: Their national dish--_kibiny_ (a kind of pastry)--is served in the cafes of Trakai.

LOKYS is a famous place where I ate tonight.
PONAS LOKYS (MISTER BEAR)--whisky, honey, ice.
GRAND DUCHESSE--vodka, rum, lemon juice, pomegranate, sirup ice.
DOUBLE RAINBOW--orange and lemon juice, pomegrantae sirup, ice.
HUNTERS' SALAD--fried bread, beans, olives, oranges, cheese, mayonnaise.
BEATERS SNACK--fried bread, smoked bacon, onion.
CHICKEN "TABAKA"--fried marinated flattened chicken served with garlic sauce.
POTATO DUMPLINGS (ZEPPELINS)--with meat filling and bacon bits, sauce.
"PEACOCK'S TAIL"--yogurt cream, cranbery pudding, cream, fruit.

BALANDELIAI: cabbage rolls stuffed with meat
BLYNAI, BLYNELIAI OR LIETINIAI: thin pancakes filled with _mesa_ (meat) or _varske_ (curd) or _grybai_ (mushrooms).
CEPELINAI: for a pictorial reference, see picture on the right. Shaped like a Zeppelin, these huge potato dumplings stuffed with meat or curd are not to be missed. N.B. These are not a heart-healthy choice.
GIRA: a fermented drink brewed from black bread
KOLDUNAI: ravioli stuffed with meat or mushrooms
LIEZUVIS: cow's tongue is a traditional Lithuanian specialty but if you are mor of a foot or an ear person you will find that miscellaneous pig parts appear quite often as appetizers.
SALTIBARSCIAL: cold beet soup with buttermilk and dill.
SILKE: local herring is prepared in many different styles
SASLYKAS: or shashlyk are wood-fired marinated "kebabs"
VEDARAI: pigs intestines stuffed with potatoes
