For the ADS-sponsored session at the MLA, I have agreed to give a paper on
change-in-progress in American English.
I have in mind a list of features that teachers might like to offer as
inquiry topics for students, particularly innovations in pronunciation or
syntax. Types of lexical change are also welcome--e. g., the internal
capital in "FedEx" for instance. I leave new words to the New Words
committee.
If you would send no more than three suggested features, I could then list
them in order of salience.
I will make the list available to others when I have compiled it.
Thanks for your help.
