There's an appropriate article in the American Journalism Review about the loads of
crap that get passed around on the Internet as truth, and even offline by supposedly
professional journalists. It features Fred Shapiro as a man who can tell truth from
lies using the magic JSTOR database.

"The Real Computer Virus: The Internet is an invaluable information-gathering tool
for journalists. It also has an unmatched capacity for distributing misinformation,
which all too often winds up in the mainstream media."

Barry and whoever: maybe the various journalism reviews are a good place to approach
the mis-reporting of Big Apple, hot dog, jazz, etc.
