   Back to the Herald Tribune.

I previously posted stuff about South Africa's monkey gland sauce. It's also a steak. I haven't inspected OED's monkey glands.
From the NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE, "Dining Around Scotland" by Isabel A. McGovern (the pinch hitter when Clementine Paddleford is away--ed.), 20 April 1963, pg. 9, col. 5:

Don't be startled by monkey gland steak, it's really like a steak Diane.

   FWIW to Fred Shapiro.
From THIS WEEK magazine, 21 April 1963, pg. 16, col. 2:

1. Who introduced the expression, "_I kid you not!_"?
1. Jack Paar certainly helped popularize "I kid you not!", but it was introduced in Herman Wouk's best-seller, "The Caine Mutiny." It was the favorite expression of the famed villain, Captain Queeg.
