   MANGIT is an Uzbek tribe and also a brand of carpet.  Not in the OED.
   MARIGUL is a type of design.
   OED appears to have SILK ROAD from 1931.  A friend's book on the SILK ROAD says it was coined by a German writer in the 19th century.
   I couldn't find MADRASSAH or MEDRESSAH in the OED.  I checked under the keywords Islamic and Koranic (school).
   HAS ANYONE FROM THE OED _EVER_ BEEN TO CENTRAL ASIA????
