HDAS has it from 1974 but remembered from the early 1960s (though it refers to
cow manure, not horse manure, where it can be determined from the cites); OED
doesn't bother, and DARE has it from 1976 but with 1950s reference. The DARE
evidence shows some 'horse manure' senses.
