Popik writes about e.q. for taco:

  John Mariani's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN FOOD & DRINK has 1930--a rare
case where he beats M-W and OED.  No source is given.

I wouldn't bet on this.  Mariani tends to take the earliest statement
of date (e.g. Random House Webster's) and post that.  It is frequently,
by their style, as much as several years too early.  That's what
apparently happened hear.  Mariani has found a few e.q.'s which stand
the test, however.  Yale boat pie is a case in point.
