Medjugorje?

A Catholic friend forwarded me the message of September 25th from Medjugorje.

Apparently, the name of the town means "between the hills."

I had conjectured that the -jugo- part might mean "south," Jugoslavia (or Yugoslavia) is loosely
"the land of the Southern Slavs," but then there isn't much left over for "between the hills."

Any ideas?
