'Webring' has been around for quite sometime.  I imagine that it takes
on slightly different meanings depending on context of the internet
service or content.

I remember checking out www.webring.com back in 1998, before it was
absorbed by yahoo.com.  It provided a link-sharing service for related
websites, with varying degrees of restrictiveness or openness of
participation set by the owner of a given ring.

In this service context it differs from listserv, but the difference is
defined largely by the generic differences between email and web pages.
