Major Antedating of "Linguistic"

The earliest citation in OED for the word _linguistic_ is dated 1856.
Here is the earliest I have discovered:

1828 _Literary and Evangelical Magazine_ Sept. 489  I must believe, that
linguistic study, directed as it should be, viz. to acquire a knowledge of
_things_ that are designated by the words of a foreign language, is one of
the most important means of improving and strengthening the faculty of
nice discernment, that is within the reach of any young man.
