Heksher/Hechsher (1939)

But these are all in Hebrew or Yiddish (or both). According to Reuben
Grossman's Milon 'Ivri-Angli shalem = Compendious Hebrew-English
Dictionary (Dvir, 1949) "hekhsher" is identified as a Mishnaic-Talmudic
period word.
It is included as an entry in David  Kimchi's (ca. 1160-ca. 1235)
Sefer ha-shorashim.
The word itself has been around a very long time, but maybe didn't appear
in an English language text, although I find it hard to believe.
