WOTY considerations

I like "blog" and its derivation blogger. Blogs are a genuine social phenomenon, and they have the advantage of not being a transient political development. (The terms, of course, may turn out to be transient anyway, but I'm pretty sure that the phenomenon is around to stay.)
The terms seem to be pretty new. The domain name blogger.com was registered on June 22, 1999, according to Register.com's WHOIS database, and I haven't seen any earlier uses of either word than that. A diligent Google Groups search might find something, but there are a lot of unrelated uses of "blog" that make it difficult to search. As for the underlying term "weblog," the Robot Wisdom Weblog FAQ claims that it was the first to use the term "weblog," in December 1997.

I still think "blog" warrants serious consideration.
