I think it's a version of "toupee" = "wig"/"hairpiece". Possibly a humorous alteration of Toupelon, which is a brand-name for wigs and for an artificial fiber [US Trademark by Kanegafuchi Chemical, 1984], presumably < "toupee" + "nylon" or something like that. -- Doug Wilson
