This is very common in various subfields of computing. A recent example
from a mainstream source:
2001 N.Y. Times Mag. 8 Apr. 46/3 To cover your tracks, set
the browser to "expire" the history after every session.
A computer-specific source wouldn't use scare quotes; we have examples
from the 1980s if not earlier.
