I think of "carry-out" with "beer", and "take-out" with "food"... this
may be a localism having to do with Pennsylvania law on alcohol sales,
where the amount of beer one is allow to 'carry out' of a bar or bottle
shop at one time is explicitly delimited (and enforced) at 192 oz. at a
time - two six-packs of pounders. You can buy as much as you want, but
you have to make 2 trips back to the car if you buy 193 oz. of beer.
grocery stores and conveniences don't sell carry-out, however, since
beer must not be sold from these sorts of establishments...
