As someone who used to hawk vegetables in Wilmington, DE, I was aware of
the word in everyday usage.  A search with Google returns about a dozen
hits on 'hawk vegetables'.

We were not hucksters, since the vegetables were grown on our farm.  At
the time, city laws did not require us to have a license.  MW 10th, #1,
defines a huckster as a hawker/peddler.
