Vancouver is the guy they named an ISLAND after.  When the Canadian Pacific Railroad selected their Pacific terminus, they needed a name for it, so they arbitrarily stole the name of the island as being the most recognizable name in the area.  This is why the city of Vancouver is NOT on Vancouver Island.

Seattle was an Indian chief in the Puget Sound area.

The man buried in Grant's Tomb is named Hiram, and by now he must be getting awfully Tyred of that joke.
