Well, we don't know this for sure. An early spelling was also "nurd". BTW
I think it's Geisel, not Geissel.

Many things, though, have come in from cartoons, animation, etc. Lots of
stuff from Disney, of course; "security blanket" from Charles Schulz; the
sandwich called a "Dagwood" from "Blondie" (though I don't know if it has
anything beyond a vague definition); "Brainiac" from Marvel Comics or DC
Comics...
