"The most fresh salmon"

The rules are simple:

One-syllable adjectives use suffixes -er, -est
Three- or more syllable adjectives use "more," "most"
Two-syllable adjectives use either.

So "more simple" and "simpler" are both normal. But "the most fresh salmon"
would be interpreted by most of us, I think, as 'having more fresh salmon
than anyone else' rather than 'the freshest salmon'.
