I sent Mark Mandel my reading of the rebus in his yesterday's post, and then later ran across the first two lines in the chapter on rebuses in /The Oxford Guide toWord Games/, 1984, which says : "Every schoolchild used to know this rebus"........ which might be true in England, but probably not here.
