TRAVELS THROUGH GERMANY, BOHEMIA, HUNGARY, SWITZERLAND, ITALY, AND LORRAIN
by John George Keysler
London: A. Linde
1756
in four volumes

VOLUME ONE
Pg. 141:
At least it is this _Scheuchzer_ endeavours to vindicate the _nostalgia_, _pathopatridalgia_, or the _heimweh_, i. e. home-sickness, with which those of _Bern_ are especially afflicted.*

*This account is confirmed in the _Breslau Miscellany_, vol. III. where are to be seen the notes of this affecting tune. _Nostalgia_, which in its etymology signifies _a pain from long being denied a return into one's own country_, is a word more known than _Pathopatridalgia_, of which _Zwinger_ of _Basil_ has wrote an express treatise.

(OED has 1770 for "nostalgia." I've got three-and-a-half more volumes to go in this great work--ed.)
