Sloane Ranger, or more often 'Sloane' tout court remains as popular as ever
in the UK. There was a moment (1980s) when it took a back seat to 'yuppie'
but if for nothing else the British upper class is known for its infinite
resilence, arrivistes notwithstanding, and its Carolines and Henrys (the
ur-Sloane names) were unbowed by a load of ghastly counter-jumping oiks.
(Even if daddy's City firm did have to take some of them on to keep itself
afloat.) Some of them, older now, have transmogrified into 'ladies who
lunch'.
