Towns and Townships

For those of you who have ever had the joy of trying to untangle these
terms as they are used in the US (along with city, village, etc), I highly
recommending going to the USENET site comp.dcom.telecom and look for a
series of four posts on Towns and Townships that were recently posted by
Neal McLain. This is the most thorough discussion of these terms that I
have ever seen.

If you are not a regular user of USENET you can access it
through Google via the Groups option, through which you can get to
comp.dcom.telecom

They were posted on October 19, 2002, and the title of the threads
are "Towns and Townships - Part 1 of 4" and so on up to Part 4 of 4.

You can either search on relevant terms to call them up, or you can hit
the '25 previous threads' option 7 or 8 times to get to that timeframe.

A very informative read.
