        Speaking as one of them:  We are on pins and needles waiting for the arrest of the gunman or gunmen.  And we wait in fear, perhaps on tenterhooks, for additional murders.

"on pins & needles" seems much more benign and far less stressed
than folks in Montgomery County and surrounding areas must be
feeling.
