And in today's political column (NYT A33), Safire talks about how if
San Fernando Valley does in fact secede from L.A. they're already set
with their own linguistic identity.  (Fer sher.   Grody to the max.
Like, omigod.)    Of course, the claim that 'for a generation,
"valley girls" have had their own dialect' may be a bit of an
exaggeration...
