Agreement question

To the extent that "the press" can refer to a motley group of
organizations and/or their individual representatives, many of them
competing with each other and with different agendas, it makes sense to
see them as telling plural diverse "stories" and for the diversity of
those stories to support the diversity, and hence inherent plurality, of
the press. This is IMHO not nearly so applicable to "the team".
