Recently I asked a 14-year-old computerized type why he thought some Indian
word had "bh" in it. He's not studied linguistics and he has no Indian
heritage and does not speak any language besides English. He said that he
thinks the "h" indicates aspiration. Well, it doesn't matter whether it
does or not, I'm surprised that the concept occurred to him. After all,
these young people are post-literate, right? And interested only in strange
hazardous sex acts, strange hazardous recreational drugs, and grotesque
obscene hip-hop music, right? He said he learned about aspiration at the
Zompist site.
