invented in 1912? "Sambo" invented ice cream in 1816?
The "brick ice cream" deserves following up.

The carnival man, who had watched many of the noisy efforts of human
beings to find pleasure, sat in his concession at the St. Louis world's fair,
glancing idly about.
Two girls in a nearby ice cream stand had wrapped waffles around ice
ctream and were eating with gusto.
Menches sprang from his chair with a shout of convistion and the ice cream
cone virtually was created. He founded the first cone company in 1905.

25 July 1921, DECATUR DAILY REVIEW (Decatur, Illinois), pg. 6, col. 1:
      SAMBO THE GREAT
Know Sambo Jackson? The next time you eat ice cream, buy a sundae, order
a "banana split" or take a grape ice just remember the name of Sambo Jackson,
a one time negro chef in a New York tavern who in July, 1816, gave to an
astonished patron of his employers restaurant the first dish of ice cream ever
served to any one.
Sambo was its inventor and if his discovery of the new delicacy whoch was
destined to conquer the western world, and eventually Europe, was accidental,
as it is said to be, he was wise enough to keep the secret of the process for
a long time, securing to himself the early monopoly on the manufacture of ice
cream.
A monument to Sambo as one of the real beneficiaries of the human race
would be quite fitting. True, ice cream is not a necessity but who would deny
that it adds to the joy of living--and that is quite as much worth whiles as
adding to the ability to live.
Some things make life possible--others make life worth while. We must
have the former but we are far from despising the latter.
