It feels natural to me to say "I didn't used to go swimming in the
rain, but ...."
or "He didn't used to drive so wrecklessly " or "She didn't used to
drink so much"  I'm not sure I'd write it that way.

I also feel comfortable saying "She didn't used to do the laundry that
way" or "She didn't used to do an Eskimo roll so easily."
