Casting the Net (was "the miscast Net")

I too have some trouble understanding the point of this exercise. Maybe
I missed some of the earlier posts. Are you hoping to show that "net"
calls to mind "internet" more commonly than, e.g., hairnet?
More to the specifics, do people really call it "the net"? I thought
"web" was more common now. "The Net" strikes me as old fashioned, like
"stuff" (cf. dunk) in basketball.
