HEE-licopter On Navy bases in the early to mid-50's, HEE-licopter was the standard pronun- ciation. My Navy pilot father told me some time around 1957 that it was now to be pronounced with a short /e/, and subsequently, it was. Who promulgated the change, I don't recall. --Jan
