Which for me, to return to the sports metaphors, brings to mind a
rather unsuccessful defensive back for the New York Giants a while
back named Elvis Patterson.  He was universally known as "Toast"
Patterson because he was so often "burned" (beaten for long and/or
touchdown passes).
