"His cake is all 'dough'" (1860)--Query

Hmmm, stupid me, I neglected to look in the standard references. Under
"dough" (1.b.) in the OED, under "cake" in HDAS, under "cake" in the
Century Dictionary (1889): "One's cake is [all] dough" = "One's project has
failed". Used by Shakespeare pre-1600. Still used ca. 1900. Forgotten now?
