1850 _Notes & Queries_ 23 Nov. 429  _Cupid and Psyche_ ... This is
probably an old _Folk-tale_, originally perhaps an antique philosophical
temple-allegory.


folk-song (OED 1870)

1853 _Notes & Queries_ 15 Oct. 357  It has often occurred to me that the
old country folk-songs are as worthy of a niche in your mausoleum as the
more prosy lore to which you allot a separate division.
