The Peck cite does, I think, fit M-W's definition of "secular
humanism," which is broader than the strictly polemical sense; it
consists of a synonymous cross-reference to humanism sense 3,
defined as "a doctrine, attitude, or way of life centered on human
interests or values; esp : a philosophy that usu. rejects
supernaturalism and stresses an individual's dignity and worth and
capacity for self-realization through reason."
