"Flivver" in OED

Since "tin can" for a destroyer is only cited in RHDAS from 1939, and "tin
Lizzie" is cited as early as 1915 in Mathews, I'd bet against there being a
connection.  I'd speculate on the "can" and "tincan" meaning of depth
charges, cited from WWI.
