The use of summit as a verb is recorded first in _The Second Barnhart
Dictionary of New English_ (c. 1980) with an e.q. [earliest quote] of
1972. This is in the sense of "to engage or participate in a summit
meeting" (a political context). In the sense of "reaching a mountain
summit" the first dictionary encounter is in _The Barnhart Dictionary
Companion_ (Vol. 11.4, c. 1999) with a e.q. 1985(?). These were
quickly tracked down with the aid of _The Barnhart New-Words
Concordance_ (2003).

It seems one has to toot one's own trumpet. Slam me if you will for
commercialism, but do it off-list.

Happy word-sleuthing from,

David
