You know, I'd been thinking that people were being a bit too harsh on
prescriptivists in general and Robert Fiske in particular, but then bits like
this pop up:

From: Robert Hartwell Fiske <Vocabula at AOL.COM>

<snip>

: I am not the least fearful of language change though I am fearful of
: ignorance, and only the honest among you will concur that much language
: change is due to exactly that.

On another list I'm on, a TLA in common use is "CFR". CFR technically stands
for "call for references", but it colloquially means "I really don't believe
your claim, so I'm calling your bluff--give me your evidence or give up your
claim".

Therefore, CFR on your claim. AFAICT, I'm a generally honest person, and I
don't believe much language change is due to ignorance. So, unless we're
defining "ignorance" differently, I'd like to see your proof--particularly
your proof of (and definition of!) "much".

David, who (to be honest) isn't really afraid of ignorance, either
