MWCD10 says that English "biscuit" comes from MIddle French "pain bescuit"
meaning "twice-cooked bread".  The Dutch spelling "beschuit" looks an awful
lot like the Middle French spelling, suggesting that Dutch, like English,
picked up the word from Middle French.
