OED and Merriam-Webster have 1836 for "Edam" cheese. November 1828, CASKET (American Periodical Series), pg. 514: Though the best Dutch cheese is known in the trade by the name of Edam cheese, almost the whole is in fact made at present in the environs of Alckmaer.
