I meant to say "the prevalence of etymological misinformation."

Let me take this opportunity to say that I am extremely thankful that
Barry Popik is out there turning up his wonderful discoveries; my critical
comments are motivated by a wish, shared undoubtedly by many on this list,
to see less of the repeated complaints.
