Well the OED doesn't have it, but the 1918 Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School Cookbook has a recipe for German Toast (see http://www.bartleby.com/87/r0080.html) and the 1996 cookbook Breads From The La Brea Bakery gives a recipe for French or German toast (http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1818,158188-240195,00.html).
