This has been around since the late 60s at least. It is prominent in the lyrics of "Time of the Season" by the Zombies, which one lyrics site says was released in 1968. Also, I am pretty sure it is in lyrics by Ray Charles from the 50s, but cannot swear to that. Frank Abate
